I’m a non-fiction writer covering Chinese politics, technology, and society, most often for The New Yorker. I previously covered Asia technology at The New York Times; my work has also appeared in The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Atlantic, and Foreign Affairs, among others. Born and partly raised in Tokyo, where I’m now based, I occasionally write about Japan and am fluent in Mandarin and Japanese.
I also host Into Asia, a podcast on politics, culture, and society across East Asia with the writer Ian Buruma. Available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
